Bug Type

dark_type_symbol_paldea_by_jormxdos_dg5qm1n.png

Bug-type Pokémon may be small, but they evolve quickly and hit hard when used wisely. From speedy sweepers to tricky status dealers, these often-overlooked allies can surprise even seasoned trainers. Master their quirks, and you'll never underestimate a bug again.

Bug Pokémon usually evolve fast, making them great for early training.

Most live in forests, sometimes hidden in treetops. They're usually based on real insects like butterflies, beetles, or spiders.

Bug-types symbolize the beauty of nature. Their evolutions often mirror real insect life cycles (larva → cocoon → adult).

Since Generation V, Bug Pokémon are said to be favorites of artists for their bright colors and cheerful nature.

Fun Fact: The creator of Pokémon, Satoshi Tajiri, was inspired by his childhood passion for entomology (the study of insects) and insect collecting. In fact, he was nicknamed "Dr. Bug" by his friends due to his love for bugs.
Key Abilities

Compound Eyes: This Pokémon's moves have their accuracy multiplied by 1.3.

Key Moves

Sleep Powder: Causes the target to fall asleep.

Hurricane: 30% chance to confuse target. Can't miss in rain.

Quiver Dance: Raises the user's Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, Speed by 1.

Sticky Web: Lowers Speed of grounded foes by 1 on switch-in.

Trainer Tips
  • The ability Compound Eyes is most commonly used by Bug-type Pokémon, notably Butterfree and Vivillon. This allows them to boost the accuracy of their moves by x1.3. By combining this ability with their move pool, they're able to make use of some real threats in Sleep Powder and Hurricane!

  • Sticky Web is a field hazard learned mostly by Bug-types, though there are a few niche Pokémon outside of the type that can learn it. Stepping on this web will lower the speed of your Pokémon by 1 stage, which can be detrimental to your entire team. Note however that if your Pokémon is Flying-type or has the ability to Levitate, it is naturally immune to Sticky Web, along with other field hazards, minus Stealth Rock.

  • Quiver Dance! A stat boosting status move that is mostly used by the Bug-type, of course with a few unique exceptions. This Dance raises a user's Sp.Atk, Sp.Def, and Spe by 1 full stage each! Combining this status with the Compound Eyes ability and Sleep Powder can allow a Pokémon such as Vivillon to put their opponent to sleep and then stack stats in their face, leading ultimately to a devastating blow from Hurricane! (Pun intended 🤭)

In conclusion, Bug-types may be considered one of the weakest types, however if you sleep on the Bug-type Pokémon, the Bug-type Pokémon will make sure you stay forever (or at least until the battle is over 😅).
