Fairy-type Pokémon were introduced in Generation VI to balance the power of Dragon and Dark-types, while also giving Steel and Poison new offensive advantages. They are super effective against Dragons, Dark, and Fighting, and finally provided weaknesses to previously uncounterable Pokémon like Sableye and Spiritomb.
Fairy-types are often depicted as cute, elegant, or mystical, with designs that are commonly pink, whimsical, or tied to folklore. Unlike Psychic-types, which focus on mental powers, Fairies draw from magic, purity, and supernatural energy, with abilities that can heal, purify, or enchant.
Some are sweet and gentle, inspired by flowers, candy, or perfume (like Flabébé, Slurpuff, or Spritzee), while others reflect the trickier, more dangerous side of folklore (such as Mawile, Impidimp, and Shiinotic). Despite their charming looks, Fairy-types can be deceptively powerful and play a key role in balancing the type chart.
Fun Fact: The Fairy-type is the only type to not have Pokémon with gender differences in it.
