Ghost Type

Ghost-type Pokémon are mysterious and full of tricks. With immunities, status moves, and unexpected power, they haunt even the most confident trainers. Embrace the eerie and fight from the shadows.

Ghost Pokémon are some of the rarest beings a trainer will encounter. They often come with fragile defenses and limited move options, yet their strengths lie in qualities no other type can match. Ghost-types are completely immune to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks—two of the most common forms of offense in battle.

Since Generation VI, they’ve also gained the ability to ignore moves and abilities that would otherwise trap them, slipping away from Block, Mean Look, or Shadow Tag with eerie ease. This makes them slippery, unpredictable, and a nightmare for opponents who rely on brute force.

But Ghost-types are more than just a battle tactic. They are tied to humanity’s oldest fears—shadows, death, and the unknown. You’ll often find them in abandoned houses, graveyards, caves, and other places people tend to avoid. Many live to frighten humans, feeding off the reactions they cause. The more fear a person shows, the more power a Ghost Pokémon gains.

Not every Ghost, however, is content with harmless pranks. Some have darker legends—Jellicent is said to drag ships and their crews beneath the waves, while Litwick’s evolutionary family feeds on life energy, leading lost travelers to exhaustion. Training Ghost-types requires respect, caution, and an understanding of the line between playful mischief and dangerous malice.

Ghost-type has most immunities, Normal and Fighting, out of any type. Like Dragon-type, Ghost Pokémon are weak other Ghost Pokémon.

Normal Pokémon are also not affected by Ghost moves, which could lead to a potentially difficult encounter. Teaching your Ghost Pokémon a fighting move will combat bother Normal and Dark.

Ghost is not a part of any type triangles, so the best way to support Ghost-types is by focusing on dealing with weaknesses, resistances, and immunities.

Trainer Tips
  • Bring the right tools: Dark- and Ghost-types are most effective, but don't underestimate powerful Ghost counters like strong Normal-types with coverage moves.

  • Mind their tricks: Expect status moves like Will-O-Wisp or Confuse Ray; they thrive on disrupting momentum.

  • Stay calm: Ghost Pokémon feed on fear. Panicking in battle—or in the wild—only gives them more strength.

  • Respect the danger: Mischief can turn deadly. Approach Ghost-types with caution, especially at night or in abandoned places.
