Poison Type

dark_type_symbol_paldea_by_jormxdos_dg5qm1n.png

Poison-types wear opponents down with toxic strategy. From status stacking to sneaky synergy, they slowly turn the tide. Master the art of attrition and win the long game.

Poison-type Pokémon naturally carry toxic qualities, often inspired by venomous animals like snakes (Seviper), scorpions (Drapion), or centipedes (Scolipede). Others draw from poisonous plants or fungi, such as Oddish (mandrake root) or Foongus (mushrooms).

Many dual Poison-types are paired with Bug or Grass, reflecting how insects and plants in real life can be poisonous. Some Poison-types even embody pollution, like Garbodor (trash), Weezing (air), and Muk (liquid waste), while a few take on ninja-like traits through speed or stealth, such as Crobat or Toxicroak.

Interestingly, not all Poison-types are based on truly venomous creatures—Stunky and Skrelp, for example, come from animals that aren’t actually poisonous.

In battle, this type is closely tied to inflicting status effects like Poisoned or Badly Poisoned, slowly wearing opponents down.

Trainer Tips
  • Use the antidote: Poison Pokémon punish Grass and Fairy, but they’re vulnerable to Psychic and Ground.

  • Expect status spread: Toxic, Poison Point, and sludge attacks wear opponents down steadily.

  • Mind their tricks: Many serve as hazard controllers, absorbing or removing Toxic Spikes with ease.

  • Respect their bite: Often found in swamps or polluted zones, Poison-types thrive where others falter.
