Psychic Type

Psychic-types dominate with mind games and magical force. From setup sweepers to support roles, their power lies in control. Think ahead—way ahead.

Psychic-type Pokémon are fairly common and appear often among Legendary Pokémon. They are usually portrayed as highly intelligent, with many inspired by science or mythology—such as Deoxys (DNA) and Alakazam (psychokinesis).

A number of Psychic-types also have ties to outer space, like Elgyem, based on depictions of aliens, or Gothitelle, which is said to predict the future through the stars.

In battle, they fight with psionic powers, relying on high Special Attack and Special Defense but usually having lower physical strength. Until Generation IV, all Psychic-type moves were special attacks, with physical options only introduced later.

Trainer Tips
  • Play the mind game: Psychic Pokémon excel against Fighting and Poison but fall to Bug, Ghost, and Dark.

  • Expect control: They rely on status moves and special attacks, often setting up with Calm Mind.

  • Guard their mind: While powerful, their defenses are fragile—Dark-types especially exploit this.

  • Respect their focus: Often found in ruins or serene places, Psychic Pokémon demand calm, disciplined training.
